After sunset...

Assalamualaikum,

The photos below were taken on 9 Dec 2011 just after sunset from a pedastrian bridge in Klang. The purpose was to capture the light trails of vehicles travelling on the road together with the remnants of the sunlight in the western horizon.

Please enjoy the photos.

Thank you.

Lunar on 10 Dec 2011

Assalamualaikum,

In my earlier entry, I was capturing a sunset event near to Air Hitam during my journey from Klang, Selangor to Kluang, Johor. After capturing the sunset event, I managed to capture some photos of the moon just emerged from the east horizon. It was a majestic view, that I managed to freeze in the form of the following photos.

Lunar Eclipse 10 Dec 2011

Assalamualaikum,

Lunar eclipse is one of the major events in which some of us experienced. However, not all of us are lucky enough to observe the event first hand.

Photo of the moon during the early phase of the lunar eclipse (cropped at 50%)

The above photo was taken on 10 Dec 2011 during the lunar eclipse which was observed from the compound of my sister's house. I was unable to observe the whole event as the night sky was later covered with thick cloud. It was drizzled.

Please enjoy the photo.

Sunset at Air Hitam

Assalamualaikum w.b.t.,

I was in my way from Klang, Selangor to Kluang District in Johor to visit my sister. It was near sunset when I realized a glimpse of reddish colour at the west horizon. Thus, I pulled over and stop at the side of the road between Air Hitam and Kluang.

Lucky that I brought along my camera. Knowing that the event would only last for several minutes, I quickly grabbed the opportunity and shot several photos. Here are some of them. Please enjoy the photos.

The first sight of the sunset

I zoomed the lens to get better view

A minute afterwards

Before finally the reddish colour slowly vanish in the dark

Aperture f/1.8

Assalamualaikum,

Recently I bought a prime lens Canon EF f/1.8 II (a cheap prime lens with wide aperture). People say that thus prime lens is most suitable for portrait photography. With a wide aperture, shallow depth of field can easily be obtained.

These two photos are the sample of photos taken using the prime lens.

The photo of my son laying on a bench. The focus was at his right eye.

The photo of my niece in the morning of Aidiladha

Please enjoy the photos.

Wassallam

Early in the morning...

Assalamualaikum,

This photo was shot on 6 Nov 2011. It was still early in the morning, the sun was yet to emerge from the eastern horizon.

I saw my in-law with his son gazing into the laptop screen. The screen was the only source of light available for the photograph.

Thank you.

Flora: Water Lily

The surrounding area started to get shape after the sunrise. The channel are filled with water for the paddy field. Birds started their life early in the morning, looking for food.

I saw some water lily or nymphaea lotus in the water channel. Despite their name, 'water lily' is not a true lilies from Liliaceae family. Water Lily is from Nymphaeaeae family. (referred to Wikipedia)

I picked one isolated water lily and took the photo. It looks calm and lonely, facing the sky with its white petals against the dark water.

Thank you.

Sunrise: Sg Besar

Assalamualaikum,

Four days ago, we went to visit my wife's grandmother who live at Sg Besar, Selangor. The house is surrounded with paddy field or 'sawah padi'. At the moment, the fields or 'sawah' are full with new growing rice plant.

Early in the morning, after Solat Subuh or dawn prayer, I quickly get my camera and set the tripod beside the house facing east. It was the same spot where I photographed the sunrise in last year...

It was 6.30 am. At the horizon, I can see glowing sky reflecting the sunlight that indicating the start of another day. Combination of red, yellow and blue at the eastern horizon was stunning.

The camera was set at 18mm focal length, f/22, 30 seconds exposure time with ISO100.

Please enjoy the photos.

Thank you.

Children: Playing hide and seek?

It's always fun to observe children exploring their world. Have nothing to worry about, spending most of the time playing. Children will seek opportunities to play, either playing with friends or by themself.

This photo was taken in January this year. Getting bored while waiting for his sister to recieve her medal, my son spent his time exploring the school's compound (of course I had to monitor him) and playing by himself and sometimes urged me to play with him. In one occasion, he played 'hiding', but hiding behind a steel pole. Thus I took this shot.

It's funny, how naive they are.... :)

Thank you.

Fauna: Taman Pertanian Shah Alam @ Shah Alam Agro Park

These shots were taken a long time ago on 5 Dec 2010 when me and my family visited the Shah Alam Agro-Park a.k.a. Taman Pertanian Bukit Cahaya Seri Alam located at Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia.

Basically, this park demonstrates the agricultural activities in Malaysia together with its flora and fauna. The area is big enough that we were unable to explore the whole area even that we have been there twice.

These photos were taken while we were resting near a pond within the agro-park.

Please enjoy the photos.

Thank you.

View from the side mirror

Assalamualaikum,

During the journey from Ipoh to KL on19 May 2011, I sat at the front passenger seat when suddenly I realized the beautiful scenery of the sunset, seen through the side mirror. Thus, I took several photos of the sunset. It was quite tricky at first as the vehicle was on the move, so I have to use both my hand and my body as the damper to absorb the movement and vibration of the vehicle.

This photo of school children was captured at Simpang Pulai earlier on the same day

These two photos were my only best shot of the beautiful sunset.

Thank you.

Children: Iman

Assalamualaikum,

Children, especially boys tend to be very active and hard to get them to stand still even for a while. However, it is good to see them active. As parents, we see happiness in them as our own happiness. If they only sit and do nothing, we will be worrying, what has gone wrong with them.

In the morning, still smart and handsome....

A bit tired after his activities...

At noon.....
Enjoy the photos....

Rain

It is raining! Especially in the afternoon. It's hard to say whether we are in a rainy season or not as some days we experienced hot sunny days and the other days, raining heavily. And some days, we experienced hot sunny day in the morning, and rain and thunderstorm in the evening.

Located not far from the Equator Line, Malaysia experienced a lot of rain throughout the years from January to December. In the past decades(during the 80s and 90s), we might see a rainfall trend in which most of the rainfall occurred during the wet season from October to January. However, there is no distinctive trend to be seen nowadays. Based on observation of rainfall in 2011, the peaks of the rainfall trend were in April and August. However, we are yet to see the whole pattern till the end of 2011.

The chaotic trend of rainfall not only experienced in Malaysia, but also throughout the world. Thailand, for example is currently experiencing flood in Bangkok due to over-flow of Chao Praya River. Based on the news, the flood will only subside in the next 6 weeks.

While looking at the sky, let see what we can get for the camera.

Please enjoy the photos.

Thank you.

Musician

In 22 September 2011, PLUS has arranged 'Long Service Award' event for some of its staffs. This was followed by 'Jamuan Hari Raya Idilfitri 2011' for all staffs. While having nice buffet meals, we were entertained by a group of musician in the event.

To get a good photographs in the Banquet Hall with low lighting require patient and skills. I had to increase to ISO800 with maximum aperture opening in order to have just nice exposure.

This young lady was the singer  - with wonderful voice...

Thank you.

Flora: Che Tom's mini garden 2

Assalamualaikum,

It is a long time since I published my last entry. Seems that I need to allocate some time to blog inspite of the daily activities.

Last week, me and my family went back to Keratong 8, visiting my wife's family as well as for her reunion event. The mini garden seems blooming with 'bunga raya' or Hibiscus rosasinensis. There are several types of 'bunga raya' as shown below... enjoy the photos.

The last photo is not 'bunga raya', I do not know the name.... hehehe.

Thank you.

Taman Tasik Taiping

 Assalamualaikum,

I went to Taman Tasik Taiping, Perak in the mid of June 2011.

After having a meeting and discussions at the construction site of the Double Track Project, I moved to Fleminggo Hotel, Taiping, Perak for overnight stay. Located at the site of Tasik Taiping or Taiping Lake, the hotel has serene view.

So many activities can be observed arround the lake. The sky was cloudy as i had to 'enhance' the photo using Photoshop....

Please enjoy the photos....

Thank you.
