Thank you.

Buildings : Masjid

One of the prominent buildings around Malaysia is the 'masjid'. Wherever we go, we can find masjids where muslims do our prayers five times a day, either in a city, small town or villages. Every district has its own Masjid Jamek and every muslim area has its own masjid.

One of the famous masjid is Masjid Kristal ('Crystal Mosque') located at the riverbank near Kuala Trengganu.

Penceritaan @ Story Telling

Assalamualaikum,

If yesterday, we talked about an emotion (emoticon? hehehe...) in a portraiture photography, today lets talk about story telling of a photo atau penceritaan sesuatu gambar.

People say, a picture can tell many stories; depends of who interpret the picture/photo. The photo belows can have many meanings. Some may say; loneliness, some may look at it as abandonned or destroyed, some may also say 'survived'. It is all depends on the 'files' stored inside our mind in interpreting an event, based on what he/she experienced before in his/her life.

Feel free to give your comment....

Thank you.

Portrait: Children

Portrait photography normally focused on taking photos of people. In this photography concentrations are always given to the face, where not only the images are captured but also the emotions. Good portrait photography will emphasize on the emotions shown by the subject; happy, anger, sad, etc.

When photograph children, they do not bother to pose for the camera, so we have to be patient and look for the precise moment to release the shutter as children are spontaneous and natural...

To take a portrait photograph, I used the biggest aperture possible, bring the subject out of the background (make the background blur) and concentrate on the subject.

This photo of Muhammad Danish Iman was taken in November 2010 at Langkawi Island while he was playing with the rabbits.

For close-up portrait, focus on the eyes. Not sure what he was thinking at that moment...

Thank you.

Sketch 5 : Building

The eyes

The eye, is the window for our inner soul to see the world. We feel connected to the outside world through our eyes. The light beamed into our eyes, through the iris and sensed by the retina, then interpreted by the mind. If we shut-off the window, the connection to the visual worlds outside is terminated temporarily.

The eye, is also the window from outside into the inner soul. People say, we can see the heart by looking through the eyes. We can see the anger, the sorrow, the happiness, the love, the passion; by looking through the eyes, down into the heart.

... beautiful eyes...

See u all in the next entry....

Portrait : photo manipulation

Making a portrait; not only by painting (its the highly skilled job) or photography. It is also can be a combination of both, or more accurately be the manipulation of photography to create painting. Nowadays it can be easily done using Photoshop....

So, next time we see a painting in a form of soft-copy or in the internet, one can wonder whether it is a real painting that was done with high skill or just photo manipulation and computer generated.

Engineers at work 3

We are adopting buddy-buddy system whenever we are going to site for inspections and site visit.

As a part-time photographer, normally my colleague will be the subject matter for my lense whenever we go to site. These are the photos of my colleague while doing inspection to the rock slope.

HDR: First trial

This is my first trial on HDR application.

HDR or High Dynamic Range is the process in photography where 2 or more photos of the same scene, taken at different exposure, combined together to create a detailed photo. The HDR mimic our eyes where the iris being adjusted continuously (normally we are not aware about it) for us to see the dark and bright portion of a scene together.

To create HDR photo, normally require 3, 5 or 7 frames of the same photos taken at different exposure. Nowadays, the digital SLR have an option of auto exposure bracketing to help photographer in their task of taking these scene.

This photo was taken at Pantai Batu Buruk Kuala Trengganu in June 2010. Three frames of photos were taken using Auto Exposure Bracketting (AEB): (-2, 0, +2) and then processed using easyHDR PRO to combine the photos.

Hope that you enjoy this HDR photo...

The boat

The picture was taken during my visit to Kuala Terengganu. After some modification to the photo using photoshop, it look like a nice water colour painting...

Tower Structure

When the sky is clear and blue, I think it is the best time to photograph a towering structure against the clear blue sky. We can clearly differentiate between the structures and the blue background.

Enjoy the view...

Living on the rock slope

Assalamualaikum,

From far, we can see that the rock slope surface is bare. However, if we look closely, we can see many small plants are strugling to survive in between the rock joints and cracks. These images were captured while I was carrying out inspection to one of the rock slope project.

Close up: the ring

The photo was taken during the preparation for engagement of my brother in-law. Since the 'actual engagement ring' was yet to arrive, I used my wife's ring to be placed inside the 'cage'.

The apperture was set at 5.6 with shutter speed of 20. The focal length was 55mm and ISO400. I bounced the flash to the ceiling + built in reflector (to get 2 sources of light). This was the result....

Close up: grapes

Late January 2011, we were busy with the engagement of my brother in-law. The night before the event, we prepared some gifts or 'hantaran' for his future wife. One of the gift was a basket of fruit. The shiny features of the grapes catched my attention, it look delicious thus become the main subject of my lense.

Close up: flowers

Today's post is on flowers.

To make a good photography on flowers, usually I will use close-up technique, and set the meter reading, shutter and apperture combination to be slightly under-exposed. This normally works for me in order to get correct and vibrant colour, not over-exposed by the surrounding light.

The stem of hibiscus rosa or 'bunga raya'....

This is 'bunga jejarum' or needle flower. The scientific name is ixora javanica, commonly found as garden shrubs. The nectar is sweet...

This image was captured during my visit to Chiang Mai, Thailand. This symbol of waterlily, used by Budhist in Thailand...

Image of bougainvillea or 'bunga kertas' captured at my kampung

hmm... not sure what is the name of this flower. However, it is beautiful...

Masjid Ubudiah Kuala Kangsar

Known as the royal city or 'Bandar Di Raja', Kuala Kangsar, Perak has many unique historical buildings. These includes the Clifford School, Malay College Kuala Kangsar (MCKK) and one of the oldest hospital building.

One of the tourist attraction in Kuala Kangsar is Masjid Ubudiah, located near to the Royal Palace of Perak. Masjid Ubidiah has a round shape praying hall (regular decagon: 10 sides and 10 angles), slightly different from the normal rectangular shape of other masjids. Thus, after our technical meeting and having our lunch at Kuala Kangsar, me and 2 of my colleagues head our way to Masjid Ubidiah in a mission to experience the beauty of the building and to capture its image in our memory card.
