The photo of trees below were shot near Lisbon Portugal in May 2015, during my visit to Lisbon. For sure, trees at temperate region are different from the Equator where rainforest dominating the area.

The Peaks

I am back! It is a long time since my last update in this blog. A bit busy lately.

The photos below were taken a few weeks ago while I was visiting Nepal as part of Malaysian delegates. The visit was arranged by Chartered Institution of Highways & Transportation (Malaysian Branch) and Malaysian Highway Authority as part of collaboration between agencies from Malaysia and Nepal, as well as promoting technologies in highway construction. One of the attractions in Nepal were its series of mountain ranges, including Everest Himalayan Range where the Mount Everest is located.      

Part of the activities was visiting the Phewa Lake of Pokhara. From the lake, we saw the mountainous ranges (Anapurna Himalayan Range) at the background creating outstanding view of the lake, especially during calm weather when the sky is clear and so does the lake. The beautiful view of the mountain range will be reflected on the surface of the lake creating a serene view.

The cloudy sky during my visit prevented me from taking the photo that I wanted. However, the view was still beautiful on its own way.

Going 'Macro'

Assalamualaikum w.b.t.

Recently I re-explored 'macro photography' using a new gadget (add-on macro adapter). The sapphire 'wide angle-macro adapter' (if I referred it correctly) is compatible with the existing EF-S 18-55 mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II, thus enable the lens to be used either as wide angle lens as well as macro lens. It is a good tools for beginner with a small budget like me. 

The following are sample of photos taken using the new gadget.

Strawberry from Cameron Highland

I visited Cameron Highland about 6 weeks ago with my family. As usual, one of the agenda was collecting strawberry fresh from the plant which was done at Opah Strawberry Farm located between Tanah Rata and Brinchang. The red color of the strawberry was mouth watering.... as we can imagine the sweet sour of the red flesh in our mouth..... yummy. (While typing this texts.... I still can taste the strawberry.... imagining it....)

Landscape at Interchange

After so looonnnngggg...... today I would like to share some photos that I felt of having impacts in some of us. Whoever travelling along the North-South Expressway would notice various landscape works along the highway. The landscapes are not only for creating beautiful surrounding but also helps in reducing fatigue in drivers who are travelling the route (some says). But sometimes we just take them for granted and do not even notice the trees and shrubs that helps our environment.

However, if we look into some details from different angle, we might see the beauty that was unnoticed before. Thus, I would like to share these photos for our view.....

Reflection: Tasik Biru

It was a long time since my last entry as I am a bit busy recently. However, I will try to make a room for updating this blog whenever possible.

 

Today, I would like to share some photos of Tasik Biru or Blue Lake, located at Kundang, Rawang. The following is the excerpt from Wikipedia

 

'Tasik Biru Seri Kundang is a lake located at Seri Kundang, Rawang, Selangor. It is an ex-mining lake that used to be developed long time ago during the British period. During its olden days, the lake was used to be the biggest mining area in Rawang district, and one of the biggest in Selangor as well. It is about 25 km to the north from Kuala Lumpur.

 

After the colonial time, Tasik Biru is set to be a water sports and recreation centre for the local and foreign tourists. The area surrounding the lake, encompassing about 32 hectares (80 acres) would be upgraded with a recreation area and a jogging track around the lake'

 

Wow!! It seems that this Tasik Biru is one of the famous spots in Malaysia! However, now Tasik Biru is being developed and we can see housing estate starts to emerge near the surrounding.

 

The photos below were captured from 17 storey apartment building, standing tall beside the lake. The sky was a bit cloudy but still good for photography. The calm weather and absence of water activities in the lake enable us to see good reflection on the surface of water. Maybe this is how the lake got its name.

"Water Fall"

Many of us might have came accrossed photographs of waterfall with a nice smooth water flowing among the boulders. But how to capture the photo with the smooth water flowing effect? Today I would like to share my 2 cents experience on capturing those effects.

 

My visit to Japanese Garden at Bukit Tinggi had given me the opportunity to explore and experiment with photography. Lucky that I brought along my tripod during the visit.

 

The Japanese Garden is a garden with nice views, located about 3000m above sea level with cold weather. I was made to undestand that it was raining nearly everyday. A small stream flows through the garden, in between boulders and hard rocks, creating small waterfalls. Visitors have to walk through the garden to experience the beautiful scenary.

 

We came accross a small bridge crossing the stream with nice waterfall at upstream. Setting my EOS1000D on a tripod, I set the aperture to the smallest (f/22), lowest ISO that my camera have (ISO100), shutter 1/2 sec. and auto white balance. And the result... tadaaa....! :)

 

I wish that I have a Natural Density filter in order for me to get longer shutter exposure. Without the ND filter, shutter exposure time is limited. Longer than that, the image will be over exposed. For the time being, I satisfied with what I have.

Rambutan

Rambutan is a native fruit of Malaysia and Indonesia and very popular amongst the local people. Rambutan ripen on trees with either red or yellow hairy skin, when peeled off exposing white sweet and sour juicy flesh. Yummy......

Aperture          :  f/5.6 (Aperture Priority)

Shutter            :  varies

Focal length    :  varies

ISO                 :  400

Exposure bias : +0.3 step

White balance :  auto

 

Big aperture opening was used to achieve shallow Depth of Field, therefore focus was given only to the subject with blur background (bokeh). Long focal length (between 100mm - 200mm) was used in order to have the subject to fill the frame. It is a close-up for the details.

CH: Beautiful flora (3)

Assalamualaikum w.b.t.

Close-up photography of flowers is one of the most suitable subject for beginners in photography. Not only due to the beauty and vibrant colors that give the impact, but also due to immobility of the subject. Therefore, photographer can have their time necessary for good and proper.... exposure, composition, aperture opening as well as shutter speed. Even, they can shoot as many as they want at a single subject, from many angle they can take without worrying that the subject will move or run away to other places.

And Cameron Highland is one of special places that can offer various kind of beautiful flora and fauna. So, please find the photos of the flora taken during my visit there.

The following photos were captured at the entrance of one of the strawberry farms at Tanah Rata. Although, we wished to see and experience collecting strawberries in the farm, we were told not to do so at that moment.

Thus, we have to do something else. For me, the surrounding gave me opportunities in capturing beautiful images for my camera.

CH: Beautiful flora - orchid

Cameron Highland is also famous of its beautiful flora especially the orchids. Maybe due to the cold weather, CH has various species of orchids, being one of the attraction to Cameron Highland, especially for orchid lovers.

Despite the orchids, they also sell rotten wood. I wonder for what....

However, finally somebody explained that the rotten woods are for the orchid platform / base. Whatever they are, with some decoration, they looks beautiful, attractive and unique.

Nature: at the road side

It was a long time since my last post regarding miniature: motorbike belongs to Fajrul, my friend. I was a bit busy with my daily life, family and career.... hehehe

Today, I would like to share some photos that I took several weeks before at Jelapang. While doing inspection for a construction works beside an expressway, I took photos of the nature that I thought interesting and have its own story.

And here they are....

Wild Flowers

Pantai Remis: seashells

Assalamualaikum w.b.t.

A friend told me a few days back about Pantai Remis which is located not far from my home. Actually, on the map, we can find two (2) Pantai Remis along the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia; one in Perak and another in Selangor. 

'Remis' in english is clam or shellfish. No wonder that I saw a lot of seashells along the beach. Now I remember that I had been here once, back in 1998 (if I remember correctly...). However, in those days, the beach was quiet compared nowadays.
