Loooonnggg time no see.... 

A technical visit with colleagues due to work requirement brought me to the city of romance, a group of 117 small islands, separated by canals but linked by bridges, called Venice. It was a short trip however, that I was unable to carry out proper planned photography activities.

Therefore, I had to satisfied with whatever available for the time being.

The Peaks

I am back! It is a long time since my last update in this blog. A bit busy lately.

The photos below were taken a few weeks ago while I was visiting Nepal as part of Malaysian delegates. The visit was arranged by Chartered Institution of Highways & Transportation (Malaysian Branch) and Malaysian Highway Authority as part of collaboration between agencies from Malaysia and Nepal, as well as promoting technologies in highway construction. One of the attractions in Nepal were its series of mountain ranges, including Everest Himalayan Range where the Mount Everest is located.      

Part of the activities was visiting the Phewa Lake of Pokhara. From the lake, we saw the mountainous ranges (Anapurna Himalayan Range) at the background creating outstanding view of the lake, especially during calm weather when the sky is clear and so does the lake. The beautiful view of the mountain range will be reflected on the surface of the lake creating a serene view.

The cloudy sky during my visit prevented me from taking the photo that I wanted. However, the view was still beautiful on its own way.

Rotterdam May 2013

Assalamualaikum w.b.t.

I attended Geospatial World Forum which was held at Beurs World Trade Center, Rotterdam, Netherland from 13 - 16 May 2013. Together with a friend who presented his project in the forum, we started our journey with a long flight from KLIA to Heathrow for transit, before flew to The Hague Airport, Rotterdam.

The chill weather registered from 6 - 11 Degree Celsius which is too cold for me who are used to warm weather of the Equator. I was made to understand that it was supposed to be warmer as the summer is just aroud the corner, but only God knows why. The mid-day temperature was a bit higher but still cold for me.

The photo below was taken during noon while me and my friend tried to find Halal Food for our lunch, around the center of Rotterdam city, not far from the Beurs WTC. After going through winter and spring, the trees still have not many leaves which make me wonder. The black silhoutte against the bright sky.

After several efforts finally we found a Kebab Take Away outlet within a walking distance from the hotel where we stay. However, we still miss 'nasi'.

"Water Fall"

Many of us might have came accrossed photographs of waterfall with a nice smooth water flowing among the boulders. But how to capture the photo with the smooth water flowing effect? Today I would like to share my 2 cents experience on capturing those effects.

 

My visit to Japanese Garden at Bukit Tinggi had given me the opportunity to explore and experiment with photography. Lucky that I brought along my tripod during the visit.

 

The Japanese Garden is a garden with nice views, located about 3000m above sea level with cold weather. I was made to undestand that it was raining nearly everyday. A small stream flows through the garden, in between boulders and hard rocks, creating small waterfalls. Visitors have to walk through the garden to experience the beautiful scenary.

 

We came accross a small bridge crossing the stream with nice waterfall at upstream. Setting my EOS1000D on a tripod, I set the aperture to the smallest (f/22), lowest ISO that my camera have (ISO100), shutter 1/2 sec. and auto white balance. And the result... tadaaa....! :)

 

I wish that I have a Natural Density filter in order for me to get longer shutter exposure. Without the ND filter, shutter exposure time is limited. Longer than that, the image will be over exposed. For the time being, I satisfied with what I have.

CH: Morning view (2nd day)

Assalamualaikum w.b.t.

It was about 0715 of the 2nd day of our visit to Cameron Highland. As I love photography, I got a habit of going out early in the morning with my camera, especially when I am at new places or having a vacation or travelling away from home.

The weather was cold with chilly wind on my face. Looking at the sky, it was cloudy, but I was not sure whether it was dew or the low hovering clouds (actually we were at the high ground...). They look the same. While wondering around the area and taking some photos, suddenly I felt rain drops on my face and my bare hands. Suddenly it was raining! Without any warning! 

I ran to the nearby building, in order to protect the gear. No wonder some of the brochure for Cameron Highland reminds the public to be ready with either raincoat or umbrella while being in Cameron Highland. Because of the unpredictable short term rainfall, without any sign or warning.   :)

CH: Family vacation (1) - tea

Assalamu'alaikum w.b.t.

During our family vacation to Cameron Highland, we managed to get a homestay apartment with 3 bedrooms, enough for our big family. In addition, we were allowed to cook in the apartment, thus we took some time to buy some groceries and food for our consumption.

After the 'shopping', we managed to visit a tea plantation: Bharat Tea Plantation not far from our homestay. It was my wife's wishes earlier to visit, explore and 'feel' herself how was tea plantation look like.

And of course, the children were the most enjoyed, to feel new environment unfamiliar to them, and to us as well.

Catatan Perjalanan: Kuala Trengganu

June 2010, kami sekeluarga pakat-pakat mengunjungi pantai timur, ke Bandaraya Kuala Terengganu (KT). KT terkenal dengan perusahaan batik sutera dan juga keropok lekor. Dan pastinya menjadi antara destinasi utama kaum hawa.

Perjalanan dari Muadzam Shah ke Kuala Terengganu memakan masa lebih kurang 5 jam. Hari pertama kami hanya berjalan sekitar pantai melepaskan lelah perjalanan...

Yang ketara di pantai timur tentunya pantai pasirnya yang memutih... Anak-anak teruja dengan suasana pantai... pasir, angin dan ombak......

Bagi anak-anak, tentunya kolam renang menjadi tumpuan utama setelah tiba di Chalet penginapan. Di situ mereka bermain dan berkenalan dengan rakan-rakan baru dari pelbagai pelusuk negeri...

Kaum hawa pula lebih meminati Pasar Payang, bagaikan syurga tekstil dan batik sutera... macam-macam ada...!! Hari kedua, kami habiskan 5 jam kat dalam pasar nih.... huhu...

Antara yang unik di KT, bas bandaran yang seperti rumah tradisional bergerak. Tak jumpa lagi di tempat lain.... tak tahulah kalau Melaka pun ada bas macam nih...

Hari telah agak lewat petang sewaktu kami tiba di Taman Tamadun Islam, setelah sesat semasa mencari jalan ke TTI. Kerajaan Negeri patut menambah papan tanda ke TTI sebagai tarikan pelancung, terutama yang memandu sendiri...

Penat berjalan di TTI, masih sempat bermain buih sabun sebelum masuk tidur...

Kawasan taman berhampiran chalet di Pantai Batu Buruk. Waktu ini jam 11.00 malam... masih terang benderang...

Selesai 'shoot' di taman, shoot pulak kawasan pantai. Keadaan sememangnya gelap, namun terdapat aktiviti dan cahaya dari kawasan gerai makan berhampiran. Seronok shoot waktu malam ni.... sendirian di tepi pantai... di tengah malam...

Pemandangan waktu malam di sebelah 'kanan'. Cahaya yang kelihatan adalah dari kawasan chalet dan rumah yang dijadikan 'homestay' untuk para pelancung...

Hari ke3, sebaik selepas subuh terus bergegas ke pantai untuk ambil gambar matahari naik. Subuh semalam tak dapat sebab cuaca mendung. Cuaca pagi ini agak baik, jadi harap-harap boleh la ambil gambar 'sunrise'....

Apabila keadaan sudah agak terang, anak-anak pula menyusul ke pantai. Teruja dengan suasana pagi di tepi pantai...
