Going 'Macro'

Assalamualaikum w.b.t.

Recently I re-explored 'macro photography' using a new gadget (add-on macro adapter). The sapphire 'wide angle-macro adapter' (if I referred it correctly) is compatible with the existing EF-S 18-55 mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II, thus enable the lens to be used either as wide angle lens as well as macro lens. It is a good tools for beginner with a small budget like me. 

The following are sample of photos taken using the new gadget.

The Crow

 

Assalamualaikum w.b.t.

 

The crow (or some may call them raven) is common in Malaysia and can be seen almost everywhere.

 

During our morning visit to Taman Tasik Shah Alam, a crow flew down from the nearby tree to the steel railing not far from where we were seated when my wife started to prepare the sandwich. This was followed by a flock of the bird, they seems to be attracted to the food that we have.

 

Ignoring their presence, we enjoyed the food and I took some photographs of the bird waiting for some food. My son started to throw some bread on the ground, not far from the bird. It became a feast session for the birds, enjoying the bread presented to them.

Close-up: grasshopper

Assalamualaikum,

While doing close-up photography for a static subject is easy, it is a totally different case for a dinamic subject e.g. small animal or insects.

The following photos of the grasshopper were taken in early morning. Normally, it require some efforts for me to get close to this kind of subject, as the grasshopper tend to fly away to the safer place. But, maybe due to the cold surrounding, the grasshopper still inactive, need to gather the energy by absorbing the heat of the sun. Remember that insects are cold-blooded creature.  

Those are opportunities that sometimes come to us... so don't loose the opportunity....

Fauna: Taman Pertanian Shah Alam @ Shah Alam Agro Park

These shots were taken a long time ago on 5 Dec 2010 when me and my family visited the Shah Alam Agro-Park a.k.a. Taman Pertanian Bukit Cahaya Seri Alam located at Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia.

Basically, this park demonstrates the agricultural activities in Malaysia together with its flora and fauna. The area is big enough that we were unable to explore the whole area even that we have been there twice.

These photos were taken while we were resting near a pond within the agro-park.

Close up: bird

Assalamualaikum w.b.t.

Still transmitting from the backyard of my father in-law's house, Keratong 8, Muadzam Shah (actually the photos were shot there... hehehe)

Using my entry level Canon EOS1000D and cheap zoom lense EFS 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS, I intended to photograph some flowers blooming at the compound of the house. While setting my camera, a bird flew over me and landed not far away (about 2 meters from where I was sitting), just nice for me to take a shot. 

Thus, not to waste the opportunity, I quickly re-composed the camera and took some shots. All the knowledge regarding photography was forgotten, no Rule of Third, just focus and shoot..! hahaha...!  The session only lasted about 30 seconds. And here are the results:

Close up: grasshopper

Among the leaves at the backyard of my father in-law's house, a small grasshopper was resting on a leaf. Not sure whether it was spying on something or just resting. It seems didn't bother of myself approaching his strategic resting place.

Suddenly, an ant approaching from behind and resting on the same leaf. This scene lasted for about a minute before the grasshopper finally flew away...

Flora dan fauna

Flora (tumbuhan) dan fauna (haiwan) adalah saling memerlukan umpama irama dan lagu... Lebah dan bunga memang saling bergantung demi kelangsungan spesies masing-masing.

Tapi, nak menangkap gambar lebah ni, perlu kepada kesabaran dan 'try and error'. Lebih banyak yang kabur dari yang menjadi... hehehe...

Close-up Photography: fauna

Be back at kampung, looking for something to shoot. Trying to polish my skill on close-up photography... the result are.... ok, (for me.. hehehe)

Shooting a dragonfly was such a challange, need to be stand still at one spot and expect the dragonfly to land on the expected spot. Hard to get the detail without 'macro lense'.... but have to be satisfied with what I have for now...

The ants were too active and tiny, hard to make them stand still....
