Close up: grasshopper

Among the leaves at the backyard of my father in-law's house, a small grasshopper was resting on a leaf. Not sure whether it was spying on something or just resting. It seems didn't bother of myself approaching his strategic resting place.

Suddenly, an ant approaching from behind and resting on the same leaf. This scene lasted for about a minute before the grasshopper finally flew away...

Portrait: Children 2

Assalamualaikum w.b.t.

I am back! After about a week without updating this photoblog, now I am back..! (Arnold always say this... hehehe..)

The topic today is about portrait. The photos below were taken 2 days ago. He is my nephew, Muhammad Irfan Naim, 1 1/2 years. He was standing at the grilled door, looking at me while I was photographing something else. His look was innocent with his bright eyes, maybe wondering what I was doing at that time. Or.... maybe he was missing his dad as the father was currently outstation somewhere. Or.... maybe he wants to tell me to open the gate for him to venture out....

The source of light was at my left, from outside of the door, in contrast with the dimmed surrounding inside, thus creating interesting portrait of him.   

Maybe he was wondering what happened at the outside....

Buildings : Masjid

One of the prominent buildings around Malaysia is the 'masjid'. Wherever we go, we can find masjids where muslims do our prayers five times a day, either in a city, small town or villages. Every district has its own Masjid Jamek and every muslim area has its own masjid. 

One of the famous masjid is Masjid Kristal ('Crystal Mosque') located at the riverbank near Kuala Trengganu.

Penceritaan @ Story Telling

Assalamualaikum,

If yesterday, we talked about an emotion (emoticon? hehehe...) in a portraiture photography, today lets talk about story telling of a photo atau penceritaan sesuatu gambar.

People say, a picture can tell many stories; depends of who interpret the picture/photo. The photo belows can have many meanings. Some may say; loneliness, some may look at it as abandonned or destroyed, some may also say 'survived'. It is all depends on the 'files' stored inside our mind in interpreting an event, based on what he/she experienced before in his/her life.

Portrait: Children

Portrait photography normally focused on taking photos of people. In this photography concentrations are always given to the face, where not only the images are captured but also the emotions. Good portrait photography will emphasize on the emotions shown by the subject; happy, anger, sad, etc.

When photograph children, they do not bother to pose for the camera, so we have to be patient and look for the precise moment to release the shutter as children are spontaneous and natural...   

To take a portrait photograph, I used the biggest aperture possible, bring the subject out of the background (make the background blur) and concentrate on the subject.

This photo of Muhammad Danish Iman was taken in November 2010 at Langkawi Island while he was playing with the rabbits.

For close-up portrait, focus on the eyes. Not sure what he was thinking at that moment...
