Aperture f/1.8

Assalamualaikum,

Recently I bought a prime lens Canon EF f/1.8 II (a cheap prime lens with wide aperture). People say that thus prime lens is most suitable for portrait photography. With a wide aperture, shallow depth of field can easily be obtained.

These two photos are the sample of photos taken using the prime lens.

The photo of my son laying on a bench. The focus was at his right eye.

The photo of my niece in the morning of Aidiladha

Please enjoy the photos.

Wassallam

Early in the morning...

Assalamualaikum,

This photo was shot on 6 Nov 2011. It was still early in the morning, the sun was yet to emerge from the eastern horizon.

I saw my in-law with his son gazing into the laptop screen. The screen was the only source of light available for the photograph.

Thank you.

Flora: Water Lily

The surrounding area started to get shape after the sunrise. The channel are filled with water for the paddy field. Birds started their life early in the morning, looking for food.

I saw some water lily or nymphaea lotus in the water channel. Despite their name, 'water lily' is not a true lilies from Liliaceae family. Water Lily is from Nymphaeaeae family. (referred to Wikipedia)

I picked one isolated water lily and took the photo. It looks calm and lonely, facing the sky with its white petals against the dark water.

Thank you.

Sunrise: Sg Besar

Assalamualaikum,

Four days ago, we went to visit my wife's grandmother who live at Sg Besar, Selangor. The house is surrounded with paddy field or 'sawah padi'. At the moment, the fields or 'sawah' are full with new growing rice plant.

Early in the morning, after Solat Subuh or dawn prayer, I quickly get my camera and set the tripod beside the house facing east. It was the same spot where I photographed the sunrise in last year...

It was 6.30 am. At the horizon, I can see glowing sky reflecting the sunlight that indicating the start of another day. Combination of red, yellow and blue at the eastern horizon was stunning.

The camera was set at 18mm focal length, f/22, 30 seconds exposure time with ISO100.

Please enjoy the photos.

Thank you.
