Night View Seaside

Assalamualaikum w.b.t.

Night photography is one of my favorite theme in photography. Why? Because we may achieve what cannot be seen with naked eyes. Despite all of the difficulties accompanying the process, the result usually astounding.

Planning is one of the main thing to be considerer before going for night photography. We may need to survey the area, earlier during daylight and try to imagine what to capture in the photo. However, in some cases, we may just 'bulldoze' if suddenly we realized an eye catching night view over and doing our best to capture the scene over the horizon with whatever gadget in hand.

The photos below were captured in that manner. I forgot to bring along my tripod during my visit, the most important tool in night photography. Therefore, I had to use whatever solid platform that I found within the surrounding as the camera platform. And those were the results that I got. Of course, without a tripod, my choice were limited.

Happy viewing....

Long exposure over calm water created mirror effect of the scenery in which hard to be seen with naked eyes

Night Works

Assalamualaikum w.b.t.

Engineering and construction works were carried out to facilitate our daily life. Engineers and construction workers may have to work during odd hours as not to disturbed others, especially a few people whose hobbies were complaining and complaining at any opportunities they get.

However tough the works and the problems were, they have to resolve it within the time frame. At the end of the day, they have to deliver what being promised by a few people who sit higher....

That is the world we are living....

Bunga Api - Aidilfitri 2014

Assalamualaikum w.b.t.

I am back!

Wish to share the following photos of my son playing fireworks or we called it 'bunga api' in the nights prior to Idulfitri 2014.

It is hard to photograph the children playing with those 'bunga api' or mini fireworks due to lack of available light as well as lack of control of the children. Flash photography will not works in this environment as the flash will eliminate the beauty of the 'bunga api'. Therefore, have to fine tune the skills for low light photography and wished for some luck.

Please enjoy the photos...

Thank you.

From Day to Dusk

Assalamualaikum w.b.t.

In photography, we can create different scenes of the same single subject. It depends on the lighting. Different scenes can be obtained when photographed at different hour of the day. Photographs during bright sunny day will give different result as compared to overcast day, or during night time.

The following fishing platform located at Tanjung Harapan, Klang. I photographed the structure at different hours of the day, and the results are different scenes in which each had its own uniqueness.

Enjoy the photos...

Photographed around  9.00 am, with the sun shined from behind the trees canopy. As the water subsided exposing muddy shoreline...

Closer view of the fishing platform. I love the silhouette effect and  its reflection on the shallow water....

6.00 pm, when the sun about to reach the west horizon....

Several minutes after sunset with cloudy sky and water level risen.....

Half an hour after sunset......

Rotterdam: Before sunrise

Assalamualaikum w.b.t.

The view after sunset and before sunrise have combination of many elements which are complicated for human eyes as well as cameras. Combination of natural lights of the sky and the neon lights creating special effects to the landscape. With a right blends and techniques, we can create beautiful and stunning effects for photography.

The following photographs were shot before sunrise during my stay in Rotterdam. The reflection of wet surfaces (after-rain effects) added some dramatic effects to the photographs.

Photo 3 and 4 showing difference results of exposure. Photo 3 was taken with 1/5 second exposure while Photo 4 was taken with 6 seconds exposure. Notice the starry effects of the street lighting and light trails in Photo 4 as compared to Photo 3.

Please enjoy the photo...

Exposure 1/5 seconds.

Night Photography: Tg Harapan, Klang

Assalamualaikum w.b.t.

I would like to share some photos that I took two months ago. The location: Tanjung Harapan Klang a.k.a. Tanjung Gila as some would say.

It was about an hour after sunset. My brother in-law pays a visit with his wife and invited us to join them having dinner at Tanjung Harapan, Klang. The location is located about 12 minutes driving from my house. Seeing that as an opportunity for night photography, I grabbed my camera and joint them together with my wife and children.

Tanjung Harapan is located on a riverbank beside a seaport, with a lot of ships 'sails' the water and commercial fleets (lorries and prime movers) on the land, bringing goods. However, Tanjung Harapan also have sea food restaurants along its muddy bank (overlaid with rocks and concrete surface).

While waiting for the meal, I set up my gears, looking for some views to be recorded. I managed to take some photos of the beautiful night view when suddenly a scream bring shock to my heart. It was my children; Iman and Alya, both fell on their back due to slippery concrete slab, when they walked towards the water. The water was subsiding, exposing slippery, muddy concrete slab.

Despite my warning to the children for not to wander away from me, they just ignored me without realizing the consequences that they might encounter. I witnessed my boy fell to the concrete slab, twice, when he tried to walk away from the area after the first fall. And he injured his chin. Lucky that the rest of his body was not seriously injured despite some scratches and bruises. He was shocked and so did Alya.

Thus, I had to cancel my photography, to comfort my children, and hoping that they will learn something despite the bad experience.

Meanwhile, please enjoy the photos....

Looking to the west, we can see seafood restaurant serving the customer...

Cloud and Moon

Assalamualaikum,

The following photographs were taken last night when the full moon was partially covered with fairly thin clouds. After several attempts, using different exposure and ISOs, finally I got the photograph of the moon that I wanted.

Zoomed at 200mm, I used ISO800 and exposure of 1/15 seconds for the first photo and 1/20 seconds for the second photo.

Photo of the moon, cropped at 50%

Modification on the 'hue' and saturation gave different effect of the moon.
 Please enjoy the photos.

Thank you.

Fireworks: 1 Jan 2012

Assalamualaikum w.b.t.,

Today is 1 January 2012. As usual, at 00.00.00 midnight of 31 Dec 2011, many people went out to see the fireworks event held to mark the change of the year from 2011 to 2012.

Last night was my first attempt to capture fireworks event that marked the beginning of Year 2012. I left home at about 2315 with my motorcycle. I preferred motorcycle as I heard earlier that the road and highway might be jammed. To my surprise, I was caught in a heavy jammed as many vehicles were on the road towards where I was going to. The traffic jam was massive, and policemen were working hard in controlling the traffic.

I reached the site at 2340, being delayed by the traffic jam in contrast to the usual expected travelling time that I will manage to get there in about 10 minutes with normal traffic. I parked at the side of Federal Highway, near to Sungai Rasau Toll Plaza, facing I-City in which the fireworks will be held. After setting-up the camera and pre-focus the scene, I waited. There were many other photographers with their gadget, already waiting for the event.

At about 00.00.00 midnight, suddenly the fireworks started, shooting towards the dark night sky with its tremendous sparks and thunder. At the first shot, I used 20" exposure with 22 aperture no. and ISO100. Then I changed to 8" exposure time with the same setting for the rest (to get more shots as I don't want to cramp everything in just 1 shot).

It was beautiful trail of light with black night sky as the background.  The crowd were full with cheers looking up into the sky. However, the event only last for several minutes and I heard some of the crowd expressed their frustration. Maybe it doesn't worth with the traffic jam that they need to face to come to the site.

For me, mission accomplished, and I started my journey back home. Here are some of the photos to be shared. Please enjoy the photos.

Thank you.

After sunset...

Assalamualaikum,

The photos below were taken on 9 Dec 2011 just after sunset from a pedastrian bridge in Klang. The purpose was to capture the light trails of vehicles travelling on the road together with the remnants of the sunlight in the western horizon.

Lunar on 10 Dec 2011

Assalamualaikum,

In my earlier entry, I was capturing a sunset event near to Air Hitam during my journey from Klang, Selangor to Kluang, Johor. After capturing the sunset event, I managed to capture some photos of the moon just emerged from the east horizon. It was a majestic view, that I managed to freeze in the form of the following photos.

Lunar Eclipse 10 Dec 2011

Assalamualaikum,

Lunar eclipse is one of the major events in which some of us experienced. However, not all of us are lucky enough to observe the event first hand.

Photo of the moon during the early phase of the lunar eclipse (cropped at 50%)

The above photo was taken on 10 Dec 2011 during the lunar eclipse which was observed from the compound of my sister's house. I was unable to observe the whole event as the night sky was later covered with thick cloud. It was drizzled.

Please enjoy the photo.

Assalamualaikum,

Still with HDR journey along Presint 2 of Putrajaya. There are many architectural beauty along Presint 2 of Putrajaya. Based on my observation, each of the government building has its own criteria and beauty, each one is different from each other.

Strolling the area at night, I observed some enthusiast photographers experimenting techniques in night photography.

Night Photography 6 - Masjid Putra

Assalamualaikum,

Continue our journey into Masjid Putra of Putrajaya. While entering the praying hall, one would be mesmerized by the architectural beauty of the internal design of the building and the majestic praying hall. The reddish colour of the internal decoration enhanced its beautiful structures.

View of the praying hall from outside...

The 'Mimbar' located at the front of the praying hall or 'Dewan Solat'

Another view of the pillars showing how high is the ceiling or 'kubah' at the center of the praying hall.

The rear view of the praying hall. The upper level is for muslimat (female) area.

The 'Kubah' or dome of the Masjid Putra; big and majestic...!!

Although the building is big and beautiful, sad to say that the Jamaah are few. Many of them were outsiders visiting the Masjid. And some of the Muslim visitors drove away while the Muazin called for Solat Maghrib.

However, these photos were taken after maghrib prayer, and I waited for most of the Jamaah to clear the prayer hall. I met one gentleman who asked me is there any religious class in between Maghrib and Isyak. Good question that need an answer...

Thank you.
